Dreary day

The Safari struggled with a damp and dismal day. It barely got light. nothing of note was seen on the way to or from the physioterrorist; who says we coming along nicely at last.
The garden proved the sole interest of the day. Our friendly neighbourhood Grey Squirrel has just about destroyed the feeders, so much so that they won't hold any seed now so it's the bin for them. The suet feeder is all that remains and is the sole focus for the few Blue Tits and the Robin that are still coming to the garden; the lack of sunny seeds has forced the finches to search elsewhere for their scram.
We put down a bag of long out of date raisins we found lurking furtively in the back of one of the kitchen cupboards and attracted a few Blackbirds. One of these hopped all the way down the garden path making straight for a clump of Thrift where it pulled out an enormous caterpillar, so big we thought it was a worm at first. How on earth did it know that was there from about 10 yards away?
With so little happening we had to devise our own entertainment so we went all arty and made this autumnal rainbow from the flowers still in bloom in the garden.

OK so a Lady's Mantle leaf isn't a flower, you find a green flower at this time of year and we do think that perhaps we should have swapped round the blue and the  indigo for a better effect.
Where to next? With a bit of luck it won't be so dank and dreary tomorrow and we can stretch our legs a little.
In the meantime let us know what Richard of York has been upto in your outback.

I watched a Robin fly from the base of a hedgerow and pick up an insect ten meters away, before flying back into the hedge again, some eyesight!

Amazing how the mind works when its bored 'witless' Dean...you want a wildlife gardening job? No way I can prep Base Camp up for winter and need someone who knows what they're doing

Cheers
